Gromdain, 9th of Nuwmont, 1,000 A.C.
During the day Chow-Lin located
an alchemist who would be able to identify her potion for 40 gp in 1-3 days
time. She did not spend the money and the potion remained unidentified. Portio
picked up the party at the Rampant Griffin by coach and took them to The Hill, a
well-to-do neighborhood near the Ducal Palace. There they entered a large dinner
hall that was rented by the Vorloi for a dinner party. The party was apparently
being held to celebrate the betrothal of Lord Vorloi’s eldest son, Pietro, to
the daughter of Sheik Abdallah, an ambassador from the far off deserts of
Alasiya. The Ylari guests were throwing a bachelor party for the young man, and
the women were having a bridal shower. But Lord Vorloi asked the party here for
two reasons. First, he wished to congratulate them on the fine handling of the
horse rescue. He imparted upon them the importance of their actions, as the horses
were the young girl’s dowry, and if the Sheik had discovered they were stolen,
there would have been many complications and possible international incident
as a result. Secondly, Lord Vorloi was troubled by the accounts of orcish
raiding bands in the forest. The fact that they were willing to trade with
human bandits and that they were heavily armored did not bode well for
Specularum. Lord Vorloi had heard from elvish friends and military commanders
from the Westron provinces that orc raids were becoming increasingly brutal and
well-aimed.
Lord Vorloi had asked that the party
locate the lair of these orc bands and put a stop to them. He figured out a
way to fund the expedition, by hiring the party as mappers. As such, he had spoken
with Lord Korrigan and gotten permission for the party to map the western Radlebb
Woods area. Lord Vorloi had also recruited several of the militiamen from the
Radlebb Keep to accompany the party and bolster the small group.
Portio was little help during
this meeting (having thoroughly enjoyed the Ylari hospitality), but he was
aware of the mission ahead. Once the party all arrived home at the Crown of Halav, they found that their rooms had been "investigated." By talking to Eric’s cat, they
found out that a nasty-smelling man was poking about. The only evidence they had of his intrusion was a dagger stuck to the inside of the door piercing an elven ear. The dagger was
obviously of orcish make, as evident to those of elven heritage. A
watch was kept during the rest of the night (after summoning the town watch) but nothing
else occurred.

The following morning, the party decided that they had better
locate new lodging in the city. Markus headed to the shops in hopes of gaining
weapon oil, a whetstone, and a new crossbow string. The others located some
good prospects in the neighborhood known as North End, sandwiched in between
the Merchant District and the Foreign Quarter. After checking the inn’s
available -- The Lion’s Den, Black-Heart Lily, and the Dragon’s Wing -- they all
decided to stay at the Lion’s Den until they could purchase an apartment house in
the neighborhood. The party located a possible dwelling: two story house with a large
open downstairs and 3 bedrooms upstairs for 30 gp/month. As for now, they all
remained at the Lion’s Den paying 6 sp/night, but having upper story rooms with
lockable doors and windows.
