Session 11

Date Played: September 8, 2000

Nytdain, 19th of Vatermont, 1,000 A.C. (continued)

The party headed off into the elven village of Deep Hollow after speaking with Damryth Treewarden, the leader of the elven community. Chow-Lin headed to the local magic shop, a place run by a grey elf of some magical skill. She browsed through some interesting items, mostly spell components and minor magic items, but also noticed some interesting leaf tokens and acorn bombs. Markus headed for the bakery and bought some elven biscuits (at 2 cp per ½ dozen) and 2 loaves of vegetable bread (at 1 sp/loaf). He then visited an elven winery and purchased some raspberry wine (2 gp/bottle) and a bottle of brandy (5 sp/bottle). He browsed about, looking at the honey mead (4sp/pint) and a bottle of Fey wine (5 gp/bottle) which he was told not to purchase due to the effects on non-elves (in his case, being a half-breed, the effects may not have been that bad). Eric spent the day communing with nature. At twilight, the party was summoned once more to the council chair and Damryth introduced the party to Larwynn Grunalf and Niedra Erendyl, two elves who would accompany them on their expedition.

Loshdain, 20th of Vatermont, 1,000 A.C.

Before setting off on their journey, Damryth and the Elven Council gifted the characters with three days of elven provisions per person. They also provided the party with one jar of Keoghtom’s Ointment (3 uses) in case they needed healing. The party then traveled all day through the forest, blazing a new forest trail towards the orc lair. New watches were made with the added characters:
1st Watch:  Chow-Lin and Larwynn
2nd Watch:  Markus, Torino, and Niedra
3rd Watch:  Eric and Maribor

Soladain, 21st of Vatermont, 1,000 A.C.

The party continued traveling to the orc lair. There were luckily no encounters this day and they arrived at the lair by late morning. They decided to make camp some distance away and wait until the next morning before entering.

Lunadain, 22nd of Vatermont, 1,000 A.C.

The party approached the orc lair, investigating the entrance first before entering. The lair entrance was located under the roots of a large fallen tree, with crude steps leading into darkness. Niedra and Markus identified some orc guards near the bottom of the stairs. The party prepared themselves and then entered. Three orc guards wielding bardiches and hand axes responded to their intrusion. One of the orcs was not engaged in battle and escaped down a north passage to warn others. The party managed to kill the other two orc guards in time to fend off the reinforcements. Luckily, Chow-Lin was able to cast her sleep spell on them. The party continued to the north and entered into unexplored territory. They found that the orcs just recently slain were guarding a door, beyond which were more orc guards. Markus and Eric were able to bluff their way into the next room by insulting the guards in orcish. Markus was then able to ambush one of the orcs and assassinate it. Once the interior orc guards were dealt with, the party moved into the northern cavern and explored a bit. Some of the party members had been seriously wounded during the assault, but were healed by Eric to the best of his ability.

Apparently, there was more than one way to go from this cavern. The northwest section of the cavern had an open passage leading from it into another cavern. The northeast section had a large curtain hanging in front of another opening. No further exploration was possible as the party regrouped in the center of the cavern.
