Loshdain, 6th of Nuwmont, 1,000 A.C. (continued)
Having made plans to attack the bandits in the clearing,
the party organized itself with Markus and Eric at the stream bank with missile
weapons and Chow-Lin further back in a hiding spot where they were to meet and
make a final stand if things went poorly. A few lucky shots by Markus took out
a couple of the bandits, but the remainder of the force were commanded to
attack. Apparently, the camp had been beset by elves recently and the leader
suspected their return. An unfortunate turn of events left Eric mortally
wounded and dying while the remaining force advanced on their position.
Suddenly, from the woods to the north, a pair of elven scouts arrived in the
nick of time. They helped Markus and Eric retreat to the safety of the woods
where Chow-Lin waited for them. The male elf, Perimor Oakshadow, applied
magical ointment to Eric’s wound, healing him almost immediately. The female
elf, Kindra Brightmeadow, helped Markus pick off most of the remaining men. In
the confusion of the combat, the leader orc and two of his bodyguards managed
to escape, probably back to their encampment to the west. The bandits, however,
were slain with the exception of one who surrendered to the party. This unfortunate
soul was bound and held captive for his crimes. The leader of the band, one
Rodolfo, was summarily executed by Markus while being held in Eric’s spell of
entanglement.
Once the bandits were all slain, Chow-Lin
investigated the shacks while the men retrieved the horses from the stables.
Kindra and Perimor watched over the captive human while keeping an eye out for
reinforcements. Chow-Lin found quite a few items in the leader’s shack which
were valuable, including a potion bottle. Once the party had retrieved the
horses and gathered their supplies from the woods, they parted company with the
elven scouts and headed along the brook to the east. As a precaution, Eric
headed quickly south along the trail to make sure that there were no more men
coming back to the site, alerted by the missing sentry. Luckily, no such
discovery was made. He quickly made it back to the brook and rejoined the
others.
The trek through the woods that
afternoon was slow, with all the horses and the captive slowing the party’s
movement amongst the trees. Eventually stopping for the night, the group was
able to rest peacefully.
Soladain, 7th of Nuwmont, 1,000 A.C.
The party set off early in the
morning to hopefully thwart any pursuers. By midday they agreed to cut south from the brook in order to
locate the Westron Road.
A short time later found them back at the road, but it was time to camp for the
evening again. Luckily, the gods smiled upon their progress and there were no
unexpected encounters that evening.
Lunadain, 8th of Nuwmont, 1,000 A.C.
Traveling faster along the paved
road, the party made its way back to Specularum by sundown. Eric and Markus
took the horses to the ostler from which they were stolen and spent the evening
at the stable watching over their prizes. Markus tried to make friends among
the stable hands but they remained aloof. Chow-Lin entered the city and returned to
the Crown of Halav. There she met with Portio’s envoy and gave him the
password that let him know the job was completed and that they had returned. The
envoy quickly located Portio who agreed to meet with them in the morning for
breakfast.
Gromdain, 9th of Nuwmont, 1,000 A.C.
The entire party was reunited at
the Crown of Halav Inn for breakfast and to meet with Portio Vorloi. Portio
arrived late and apologized profusely. He was very excited to hear that the job
had been completed and had brought the party their shares of gold as promised.
Portio then invited the group to dinner to be held at the Baron’s Estate.
Portio then rushed off to make arrangements for the horses to be stabled with
another ostler. The other members of the party headed to the shops to spend their
wealth and have items appraised.
