Tserdain, 10th of Nuwmont, 1,000 A.C.
Before spending the night at the
Lion’s Den Inn in North End, the party decided to equip themselves for the
mapping expedition. Their other motivation was, of course, to locate the orcish
horde and put an end to their raids in the Westron lands. So, the three
adventurers headed off to the merchant’s district for supplies before it closed
for the evening.
Locating a lexigrapher, Chow-Lin
and Eric purchased parchment at a rate of 3 silver cronas per page. They also purchased a bottle of ink and several
quills. Then it was off to the mercantyler to purchase some horse feed and other
provisions. Before leaving the city of Specularum, they decided to book rooms at
the Lion’s Den for the next two to three weeks of time just to make sure they
still had some place to live and a place to stow their other belongings.

Portio met the party in the Common Room for morning
breakfast. He was accompanied by Sergeant Trevis, his assistant Maribor, and
three soldiers from the Radlebb Keep standing guard. The party discovered that
the soldiers would be walking the distance to Radlebb Keep, thus slowing them
down. However, the soldiers were used to brisk marches and would be able to keep
up with the horses for most of the way. The Westron Road was not so busy after the
holiday celebration and no one was encountered during that day of travel.

The next day was sunny and clear but cold. The party
continued on its journey without any mishap or encounters.
Loshdain, 13th
of Nuwmont 1,000 A.C.
This day of travel was overcast with only patches of
sunshine visible through the shifting cloud cover. The going was slow, cold, and
uneventful until reaching a spot just a few miles from the Keep. A battle site,
the former location of an orcish raid, had been spotted along the road. A grave was found here as well as orc carcasses which had been kicked into the ditches,
most with little or no usable equipment remaining. It looked like wolves had
eaten from the unburied dead. By late evening, the small band made it to
Radlebb Keep. The large structure of the keep dominated the fields here, being
the tallest structure for miles in all directions. The soldiers parted company
with the adventurers, having to report to the garrison and their superiors. The
adventurers were left to their own devices for lodging. Fortunately there was an
inn close to the Keep’s walls: the Wolfsnarl Inn. This inn’s claim to fame was
the mounted, snarling “werewolf’s” head over the doorway. The innkeep was a
slimy looking brute of a man, but his rates were reasonable and the food edible, if barely. The rates were 2 silver cronas
per night to sleep in the Common Room, or one could get a Guest Room for 5 silver
cronas per night. All meals were extra
and the fare consisted of basic chicken, pork, or lamb.
